Trump Sets New 12-Day Deadline for Russia to End War in Ukraine

Must Read

President Donald Trump has set a new, accelerated deadline for Russia to end its war in Ukraine, warning that Moscow has “10 to 12 days” to agree to a ceasefire or face new U.S. sanctions and tariffs.
Speaking during a meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said, “There’s no reason in waiting,” signaling growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to scale back military aggression. The new timeline would fall between August 7 and 11, a significant shift from his earlier 50-day deadline that was set to expire in early September.
“I want to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress being made,” Trump said, hinting at further actions including secondary tariffs on nations that continue trade with Russia. “It would be sanctions and maybe tariffs—secondary tariffs.”
Trump initially blamed both sides for the prolonged conflict, but he has increasingly focused criticism on Putin, accusing him of offering false signals of cooperation while continuing drone and missile attacks on Ukraine.
“You would think, based on common sense, that he would want to make a deal,” Trump added. “We’ll find out.”
