Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has launched a scathing critique of international diplomatic moves, calling efforts to recognize a Palestinian state “politically foolish.” He argued that these actions are not only a strategic mistake but have also “assassinated the chances to reach a hostage deal.” Sa’ar’s remarks were made in the aftermath of Hamas’s release of distressing videos of two Israeli captives, Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski.
The minister condemned the videos as a “sadistic propaganda campaign,” describing the apparent starvation and torture of the hostages as a “deliberate and well-planned” tactic by the terror group. He drew a chilling comparison between the actions of Hamas and the historical crimes of the Nazis and ISIS, emphasizing the group’s profound cruelty and disregard for human life.
In addition to his critique of diplomatic efforts, Sa’ar also challenged the widely reported narrative of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He dismissed the “starvation narrative” as a “fake propaganda campaign,” asserting that the consistent flow of humanitarian aid into the region disproves the claims. He also expressed frustration that the Red Cross has been unable to visit the 50 remaining hostages, despite an explicit agreement.
Sa’ar announced that he would be traveling to New York to address a special UN Security Council session he initiated. He intends to use the platform to frame hostage-taking as a global terror phenomenon and to urge the international community to take a firm, united stand against it. He concluded by accusing countries of creating a “false symmetry” between the hostages and their captors, a move he believes is both immoral and counterproductive.
