A specialist in digestion and nutrition has shared seven foods for liver health, singling out beetroot for its unique “dual-action” benefits. This one vegetable supports the liver in two critical ways.
First, the expert notes that beetroots are “loaded with nitrates.” These compounds are essential for supporting the body’s nitric oxide pathways, which promote healthy blood flow and circulation to the liver.
Second, beetroots contain betaine. The doctor describes this as a “nutrient that helps the liver process and move fat out of liver cells.” This one-two punch of better blood flow and enhanced fat processing makes it a liver superstar.
The list includes other powerful foods. Cranberries are key for the gut-liver axis. Pomegranates are rich in polyphenols suggested to calm inflammatory signals. Raspberries help regulate blood sugar and fat processing.
Apples with cinnamon are also recommended for their role in supporting insulin sensitivity. Watermelon with lime provides additional blood flow support. Finally, strawberries with 70% dark chocolate are included for their flavanol content.
