In a recent legal development, a federal appeals court in the United States has denied former President Donald Trump’s appeal to postpone the payment of $5.8 million to writer E. Jean Carroll. This sum is owed following Carroll’s successful lawsuit against Trump for sexual abuse and defamation, concluded in 2023.
The court’s decision came as a setback for Trump, who had sought to challenge an earlier ruling that mandated the release of the funds. These funds had been held in a court-controlled account throughout the duration of the appeals process. The amount due to Carroll consists of the original $5 million awarded by the court, along with additional interest accrued over time.
This ruling follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision not to entertain Trump’s appeal, effectively upholding the original judgment made against him. Judge Lewis Kaplan, in his statement, emphasized that the legal avenues had been thoroughly pursued, and it was now incumbent upon Trump to fulfill the financial obligation as determined by the court.
Despite the court’s decisions, Trump has consistently denied all allegations made by Carroll. He continues to dispute the legal interpretation associated with the terms governing the release of these funds, maintaining his stance against the judgment.
